This state park campground is across the highway from the Mt St Helens Visitors Center (under highway walking path provided for safety). About 40 miles from Mt St Helens itself but closest campground to the mountain. Large level RV sites (some are narrow and cannot accomodate slides) with firepits and tables. Do not use sites 55 to 76 as these are designed primarly for tents and are located adjacent to Hwy 504 and road noise is extremely loud. Campground has potable water, RV dump, walking trails, etc available. Fills up extremely fast with travellers wanting to see Mt St Helens.
Many RV'ers mistakenly use this park for their stay at SolDuc. Instead, use the National Forest Service (NFS) sites located in Loop A (Loop B is more for tents and smaller RVs) about 350' up the road. Problem is that The NFS sites cannot be reserved and SolDuc can fill up fast on weekends. I would rate the NFS sites as 9/10. My suggestion would be to search the sites in Loop A (and maybe Loop B if you have a small RV) and then go back to this RV park if you can't find anything. The chg is $25 ($28 with tax) here and $14 at the NFS site.
Extremely beautiful RV campground located amongst 124' fir trees. All sites were level, paved and large with table and firepits. There were 3 waterfalls located on easy 5 mile RT hike. I can't wait to get back. However, this campground does not accept reservations so it's first come first served and this is a major problem as the campground is located 15 miles up US Forest Road 90 and you won't know until you get there whether there is a site available. During the 3 days I was there, I saw many RVs turning around and heading back down the mountain as all sites were gone. There are no signs at the turnoff indicating the availability of sites and 30 miles RT drive is a long way to go...especially in the dark. Other than that it's a great park.
The regular reserved RV sites are $22; however overflow unreserved sites without power and water are $11. We actually moved from a $22 site to the $11 site because these sites were right on the water; had a better view; and more convenient to the boat launch, swimming beach, laundry and store.
This is a county park adjacent to Dungeness Spit (said to be world's longest spit of land at 5 miles long and 50 yards wide). Has hiking trails, playground for kids (but very quiet) and very clean bathroom and showers (25 cents for 2 minutes). Planned to stay one night but stayed 3 nights as it was so comfortable. It has very large sites that are private. Potable water and dump site on premise.
Try to get site with water view. If you do not have a toad, I would not suggest you drive into waterfront Newport (a bit too far to walk). The road is too steep and narrow for the average MH driver with no parking for a large rig in town. The RV park itself is a large, flat, asphalt covered lot with no shade trees, and unfortunately no picnic tables either. The $33 charge was a bit steep for what you got.
This is basically an open field with pad sites. Has a pool and laundry facilities. The park is clean and safe with friendly staff. Try to get space 93 (back in) as it is a corner space with view of valley.
Very very close to Napa wine country. Only 30 minute drive to Vallejo Ferry terminal and hour ferry boat ride into San Francisco ($17 RT) -- best $17 I spent on entire trip. Jointly owned by county and city government. Well maintained and helpful staff. Also has 20+ miles of hiking trails and native habitat garden.
